Saltstraumen Museum
In the Saltstraumen Museum, you can familiarize yourself with Saltstraumen's rich history from the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age and Viking Age to the present day. Here you can also learn about the natural history of the place.
The museum is located in the old school at Knaplund, east of Saltstraumen church and the road down to Ripnes. On the first floor you will find showrooms and an office. Women's history is taken care of in a separate exhibition on the second floor.
The Saltstraumen museum was opened on 17 May 1992. Today it is a foundation owned by the Saltstraumen history team, the Saltstraumen district committee and the Bodin home improvement team. The museum was built by the local population themselves and is run as a purely voluntary organisation, with a small grant from Bodø municipality.
